Comments from 5 Baton Rouge Arts Market artists:

Carol Thibodeaux (birdhouses and gourds): The Arts Market has had a wonderful economic impact on my career, due to the fact that it is in my hometown. I do not have the expense of travel, lodging, meals, etc. in order to market my art. I feel that the Arts Market is a strong influence on the community of Baton Rouge as a whole. Held as it is on a monthly basis, it allows the artists of the area to interact with the public and develop relationships that nurture an interest in art as an alternative to more commercial items and allows the artist to create a market for their art without having to go through a middleman. It is good for the community because of its comfortable, down-home atmosphere and association with the Farmers’ Market. The low-stress level of the Market, being only for a few hours once a month, allows the artists to get to know one another and do some networking with each other. I think it’s one of the best things that Baton Rouge has going---the Arts Council has done a great job of making us feel a part of our own community and assisting in the furtherance of our artistic endeavors.”
Amy Anderson (stained glass & mosaics): “Within 14 months of participating in the Market, my business has tripled.”
A.B. Crochet (carved relief paintings): “Noticing the excellent quality of the work of my fellow artists has inspired my best effort for my medium. The Arts Market has grown both in quality and quantity – a bright future lays ahead.”
Jean-Marie Buxton (hand-made soaps): “The Arts Market has provided our family income while allowing me to work from home. We have bought furniture, groceries, and have gone on 2 vacations from our Arts Market fund. I can’t say enough good things about the Arts Market. It is so well run and well organized. I will miss this Market and hope the markets I participate in my new home city are even run half as well.”
Beatrix Bell (jewelry): “The Arts Market has helped put me through school! And because of high sales, I have really expanded my business.”
