The Community School for the Arts offers innovative art learning programs and workshops for youth and adults. Classes are held at the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette Street. Instructors for the Community School are professional artists from the Greater Baton Rouge area. There are a number of programs to choose from including classes, camps, and home school classes with affordable rates as well as financial aid.
We offer a variety of classes such as painting, mixed media, drama, creative movement and performance poetry. What better way to ignite a child’s interest than to expose them to a multitude of art forms!

Let the Community School for the Arts educate and entertain your young artist during their holiday break, Visual, literary and performing artists will lead workshops in sketching, painting, pottery, music, film, drama and so much more! The Saturday Youth Arts class is a fun way to acquaint young artists with new mediums or to further educate those with experience. Teaching artist Geeta Dave will lead students in the art of mixed-media collage, oil and chalk pastels, watercolor and rubber cement and acrylic paints. Ms. Dave is an amazing artist and her students always create impressive pieces of art!

Tuition $75 (10% discount for each sibling)

The curriculum for these art classes is designed for Home Schoolers and is taught by home school favorite, teaching artist, Anita LeJeune. Ms. LeJeune will teach a variety of art activities including art history, fine arts and the use of various mediums including watercolors, pastels, acrylics and clay. These classes are both fun and enlightening and students will learn the process of creating art.
