The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is delighted to announce that 2008 King Lollapalooza is Charles W. Lamar III and 2008 Queen Lollapalooza is Moffitt Aycock. Charlie Lamar is a generous philanthropist and community leader who has provided on-going advocacy and service to the arts in the Baton Rouge community. Moffitt Aycock, in addition to being a talented artist, helped start the lively annual tradition of the Laurel Street Lollapalooza in 2001 to raise funds for the arts in our community. King Charlie and Queen Moffitt will reign over an evening of mayhem, madness and merriment at Lollapalooza 2008! In addition, the Arts Council is delighted that Mayor-President Kip Holden will serve as Lollapalooza emcee for the evening.

Laurel Street Lollapalooza Chair, Claire Herthum Major, said, “Each year, the Lollapalooza Committee nominates a community or cultural leader who has demonstrated strong support for the arts over the years as Lollapalooza royalty. We are thrilled to recognize such exemplary leaders this year.” Derek Gordon, Arts Council CEO, added, “Lollapalooza is a great way to bring the entire community together in support of the arts and culture in Baton Rouge. Food, fun and fantastic music and art make for a memorable evening and support a great cause.”

Proceeds benefit the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, which provides arts education programming in the school system and through the Community School for the Arts, and supports artists and arts organizations in the 11 parishes it serves.
