September 18, 2019 Artist to Watch: Teresa "Teri" Smith
Teresa “Teri” Smith
Arc Baton Rouge Artist
Teri is a resident of St. Francisville and has attended Arc Baton Rouge Day and Supervised Employment program for over 20 years. She currently works in grounds keeping with a few of her peers at Woman’s Hospital, and in the past worked to clean, sort and recycle hangers for Cintas the uniform people.
Teri’s first remembers her love for art when she was 8 or 9 years old; she would draw all types of pictures with her crayons. Her first art teach was Mr. Casso, and he began to teach her how to paint with watercolors and enhance her paintings with pastels. Her mother has several of her paintings on display around the house. Her favorites are “The Swans” and “Audubon Bridge.”
Teri and her mother love to travel, and have visited nearly every state park in the entire United States. She is inspired by the many memories and photos she takes with her from all these places. Her favorite things to draw and paint are animals (all of them!) and mountains. Her favorite places are the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. Their most recent trip was a cruise to the Panama Canal. Teri says there was not much space on the sides of the ship when they cruised through the historic passage way!
