Meet "Louisiana's Own Cartoonist" Fred Mulhearn

  • Louisiana's Old State Capitol 100 North Boulevard Baton Rouge, LA, 70801 United States (map)

“Louisiana’s Own Cartoonist” Fred Mulhearn will speak at noon Sept. 7 at a brown bag lunch presentation at Louisiana's Old State Capitol. Mulhearn will be on hand to talk and sign copies of his latest book, Looziana Political Cartoons: The Best of Fred Mulhearn. Bring your lunch and enjoy a laugh or two at our elected representatives’ expense! Mulhearn’s newest book is a treasure of over 300 editorial political cartoons from 1980 to the present. You are sure to recognize many folks you voted for (and some you didn’t) in this collection of satire that is sure to be an equal-opportunity offender! While you’re at the Old State Capitol, be sure to view the current exhibition, Lines with Power and Purpose: Editorial Cartoons, which features over 50 original drawings from the Golden Age of print journalism. Within the exhibit, you can also enter a contest to fill in “speech bubbles” for a cartoon that features the historic Old State Capitol! The exhibit and programs inspired by it explore the rights guaranteed in the First Amendment, Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press.
