Freedom through Play

Elementary school ● Theatre Baton Rouge ● 12:30 pm-3:00 pm

This workshop for elementary theatre teachers will focus on games and exercises that promote performance and acting skills, including cooperation, projection, articulation, and character development. Learn new ways to develop these techniques in the elementary classroom and increase your students’ confidence and ease onstage to build stronger performers.

The Prepared Performer

Middle and High School ● Theatre Baton Rouge ● 9:00 am-11:30 am 

In this workshop designed for the middle and high school theatre teacher, we will work through many of the requirements for preparing your students for their next steps in theatre, including everything you need to know about auditions, building appropriate repertoire, and developing a suitable portfolio for technical theatre students.

Presenter information:

Jenny Ballard is the Managing Artistic Director of Theatre Baton Rouge.  She received her B.A. in English and Theatre from the University of TN, and her M.F.A. in Theatre Performance from LSU.  She is the co-founder of Knoxville Children’s Theater in Knoxville, TN.  Jenny was selected as one of the 40 for Baton Rouge Business Report’s 2017 40 under 40 class.  She has been acting and directing professionally for the past 18 years.  Regional Directing credits include Theatre Baton Rouge’s Mamma Mia!, To Kill A Mockingbird, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, The Drowsy Chaperone, Peter and the Starcatcher (winner –Best Director, Broadway World), Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Spamalot, The Miracle Worker, and Spring Awakening, as well as Swine Palace/Playmaker’s production of Godspell.  Regional Acting credits include Theatre Baton Rouge’s A Few Good Men, Swine Palace’s SPILL, All the King’s Men (Sadie), The Taming of the Shrew (Kate), August: Osage County (Karen), King Lear (Regan), and the TN Stage Company’s Much Ado About Nothing (Beatrice), Twelfth Night (Viola), and Hamlet (Hamlet).  Film and Television credits include American Horror Story: Coven, NCIS: New Orleans, Cover Me, Keanu, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and The First.
