Professional artists. Real classrooms. Transformative experiences.

The Artist Residency Program provides schools with professional teaching artists who instruct students in the disciplines of dance, theatre, music, poetry, creative writing, and visual art. The Arts Council and school designees collaborate on the focus of each residency, creating an individualized plan that meets the needs of the students — because no two schools are the same.

Residencies are available in two formats. Arts Integration residencies pair teaching artists with the school's academic teachers, allowing students to demonstrate understanding of academic content through the presentation or performance of an art form — making the arts a vehicle for deeper learning. Discipline-Specific Art Education residencies focus on teaching the fundamentals and principles of the art form itself, giving students a dedicated, immersive creative experience.

This program has been developed in alignment with the Louisiana Student Standards and the National Core Arts Standards, and is available to students in Pre-K through High School.
