Légende Artwerks by Kathryn E. Mills preserves story, heritage, and memory through the ancient art of linoleum block printing. Drawing inspiration from traditional foodways, beloved landmarks, and literary lore, Kathryn’s work captures the cultural threads that bind us—one hand-pulled print at a time.

Trained in Illustration at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, Kathryn first encountered block printing during a college printmaking elective. Though brief, that experience planted a seed. Years later, in the summer of 2019, she returned to the medium at her kitchen table—carving her first block since graduation and discovering a process that felt both grounding and transformative. What began as creative curiosity soon evolved into a sustainable art practice.

Block printing is an ancient technique with roots in China and a long history of sharing art and ideas with the masses. Kathryn honors this tradition by carving each design by hand, transferring the image in reverse onto linoleum, and pulling prints one by one. Each finished piece is an original work of art—editioned, numbered, and signed.

Kathryn’s designs are fueled by two lifelong passions: cooking and storytelling. At the suggestion of a market patron, she began writing short reflections to accompany each print—sharing insights into Louisiana’s culinary heritage or the imagery found in classic literature, including the works of C.S. Lewis. These stories are affixed to each piece, offering collectors both visual beauty and narrative depth.

Together, her work offers food for the body and sustenance for the soul.

Kathryn Mills has been a member of the Baton Rouge Arts Market since 2025. She lives in Sunshine, Louisiana with her aircraft mechanic husband, two hungry children, and three cats.
