The Art of Us Together

Baton Rouge, LA — This October, the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge will launch The Art of Us Together, a large-scale participatory art project that transforms portraits of local residents into living public art installations.

As part of the Inside Out Project, the world’s largest global participatory art initiative created by internationally acclaimed artist JR, residents of Baton Rouge will be invited to sit for free portraits that will be printed on-site and installed on the sides of buildings across the city.

Portrait Station Dates & Locations

  • October 9 – Cary Saurage Community Arts Center

  • October 10 – Downtown Baton Rouge during Live After 5

  • October 11 – Jewel J. Newman Community Center

These large-scale portraits will remain on view for weeks, creating a powerful, visible celebration of the region’s creativity, diversity, and shared humanity.

"The Art of Us Together is a call to unite the Greater Baton Rouge region through creativity," said Jonathan Grimes. "By bringing art beyond walls and into public spaces, we celebrate the strength, imagination, and diversity that connect us all."

The Inside Out Project began in 2011 after JR received the TED Prize, inviting communities around the world to “turn the world inside out” through large-scale portrait installations. More than 500,000 people in over 150 countries have participated in Actions on topics ranging from diversity and feminism to climate change and education.

Now, Baton Rouge will join the movement with The Art of Us Together, offering residents the rare chance to become both subject and creator of a global art experience.
