Teaching Artist Residency
The Arts Council’s Teaching Artist Residency Program provides schools with professional teaching artists who instruct students in the disciplines of dance, theatre, music, poetry, creative writing, and/or visual art. The Arts Council and school designees collaborate on the focus of each residency, creating an individualized plan that meets the needs of the students.
Residency types include Arts Integration, in which artists teach their discipline collaboratively with the school’s academic teachers in order for students to demonstrate understanding of the academic content through presentation or performance of an art form; or discipline specific Art Education, where the focus remains on teaching the fundamentals and principals of the art form itself.
This program has been developed in alignment with the Louisiana Student Standards, National Core Arts Standards, and is available to students in Pre-K through High School.

Becoming a Teaching Artist
The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge employs approximately 30 teaching artists throughout the year through its teaching artist roster. These individuals are professional visual and performing artists who are trained to meet a myriad of education and engagement needs within the community. Each artist accepted to the roster has been reviewed in the areas of professionalism, education and/or training, and their ability to function in the setting they are being hired to work in.
